Exclusive Interview With Rebaker Mae
Today I have a great interview for you, we recently had the chance to chat to Rebaker Mae, a food blogger based in Worcestershire. She not only takes amazing photos but her food is fantastic.
Tell me about your business?
It’s not actually a business, I have an Instagram account and a blog page dedicated to my passion for baking and all things sweet where I upload photos of my bakes, post recipes and product reviews.
How did you start your business?
Baking has been something that I enjoyed growing up and throughout school and college. I wanted to keep my recipes all in one place to refer back to and decided that a blog was the ideal place to do so. People eat with their eyes, so it made sense to start an Instagram page alongside my blog!
How did you get into this industry?
I have always had an interest in baking. As a teenager, I used to take my homemade Chocolate Brownies to my brother’s football matches to hand out at the end of the game.
What do you enjoy most about being in your business?
Not many people my age have an interest in baking, so I really enjoy speaking to like-minded people who share the same hobby as me, where we can share tips, ideas and support each other. I have made some incredible friends through my Instagram page which is amazing as I feel that baking used to be seen as something quite old-fashioned but has grown in popularity recently.
What top 3 words/phrases describe you best?
Witty, Ambitious and a bit of a perfectionist!
What is the best USP about your current business?
I try to make my photos as appealing as possible by creating a suitable set up as a background for bakes.
What is your favourite local restaurant and shop?
My favourite restaurant of all time would have to be Bills. Their Cinnamon Doughnuts are delicious (I also love their Chipotle Mayo!) I love Tiger as I can get some unique pieces to use as props in my photos.
What exciting things are happening in your business?
I am gaining more followers every day, this now includes companies such as Lakeland, Billington’s and Homepride Flour. By sharing my posts on their Instagram accounts, a wider audience are able to see my content.
What motivates you?
I’m motivated by success and self-satisfaction. There is no greater feeling than being complimented on the taste and look of my cakes.
What demotivates you?
Due to being a bit of a perfectionist, I take great pride in my work and put a lot of effort in, so when things don’t go as well as I had hoped or had envisaged, I get annoyed with myself. However, I am learning not to be as critical about my work.
What would you say would be your biggest achievement to date?
This is a difficult one – I can’t choose! I recently had one of my posts reposted by BBC Good Food on their Instagram account after using their recipe for a Giant Jaffa Cake. Another major highlight was Lakeland showing an interest in my page, which led to them kindly sending me a number of products to review.
