North Worcestershire’s fascinating and popular countryside craft centre with shops, café and lovely gardens.
Jinney Ring is without doubt one of the best craft centres in Worcestershire and was established in 1980. Housed in a picturesque collection of redbrick buildings and overlooking a sloping valley with wildlife ponds Jinney Ring has the benefit of an idyllic location. There are plenty of craft shops where experts demonstrate their wonderful skills from violin making to glass blowing along with chocolate making, jewellery design, woodworking, and pottery creation. There are also shops specialising in gifts, antiques, clothing and home made goods. The centre also hosts several festivals throughout the year.
Located south of Bromsgrove at the edge of Hanbury village, the Jinney Ring Craft Centre also has a fine farmhouse restaurant with ample space both indoors and on the terrace overlooking the duck ponds. The food is excellent and ranges from hearty meals to tasty treats. In summer it can be strawberries on the terrace with the Malvern Hills in the distance while in winter there are always hot soups and a roaring fire.
Jinney Rings were a mechanism that allowed horse power to be used to drive machinery by means of belts and a rotary gear. Over time the Jinney Ring became shortened to ‘gin-gangs’ which was the forerunner of the word engine that we use today. There is an actual Jinney Ring on display at the centre.
Much of the centre is wheelchair accessible except for the upper floors as there is no lift due to the age of the buildings. There is plenty of free parking. Coaches are welcome by appointment.
