A brief history of the Broadway Museum

The Broadway Museum & Art Gallery stands out among other institutions of its kind because it has an independent status. The facility’s upkeep costs and continuation come solely from the support of the local community and various donations.

The museum is housed in a former coaching inn from the 17th-century that is also a wonderful display of Tudor architecture. To this day, the building is one of the few Tudor-style houses in the Cotswolds region that features original architectural flourishes, and which is available for public visits.

The coaching inn that operated here since the 1600s had to close its doors in the 1930s when people swapped coach transportation for train travel. Throughout the 20th century, the building served as the headquarters of H. W. Keil Ltd, which was a renowned and highly-respected local dealer in antique furniture.

The Broadway Museum & Art Gallery opened in 2013 as a collection of art, paintings, and ceramics that pay homage to the heritage and homage of the local community.
