Interview With Suzie’s Sweet Treats
Suzie’s Sweet Treats provides cupcakes, cakes, treat boxes and fudge for all occasions. She exhibits at local wedding fayres and sell at local events and fetes.
How did you start your business?
It started as a hobby making birthday cakes for my little boy and then I started to get requests from friends and family. One day, I was contacted by a stranger who had heard of me through word of mouth and I decided the time was right to change my hobby into a business.
How did you get into this industry?
I started baking with my mum and grandma as a little girl and never really stopped. I just love it, so I am grateful to be able to do this as a business.
What do you enjoy most about being in your business?
I love having a creative outlet and being able to create delicious treats for people’s celebrations. I also love returning customers. Over the years I’ve created a wedding cake, then baby shower cake, the christening cake, then first birthday cake and now that little girl is 7 and I’m still making her cakes. It’s like being part of the family and I’m known as ‘the cake lady’!
What top 3 words/phrases describe you best?
Hardworking, determined, fun
What is your favourite local restaurant and shop?
Ooh, I’m struggling to name just one! I love little independent coffee shops and cafes and I’m lucky to have lots of those in Malvern.
What exciting things are happening in your business?
After a strange few months with weddings being cancelled due to Covid-19, I’m looking forward to all of the rearranged dates in the coming months and into next year as my couples have chosen some stunning designs that I can’t wait to produce for them.
What motivates you?
I love providing a service to others. I guess I’m a bit of a people pleaser so I will always put 110% into everything I produce. This often means late nights as I strive to perfect a design that was perfect 30 minutes ago!
What demotivates you?
Rude people. We all have to deal with them at some point in life but it can be really hard work staying positive and professional.
What would you say would be your biggest achievement to date?
Professionally it has to be keeping my business running and growing it over the last 8 years. On a personal level, my kids are my biggest achievement.
