Concert to Celebrate Royal Academy of Music Coveted Diploma
Bromsgrove’s Charlotte Moseley will perform Elgar’s Violin Concerto in Worcester Cathedral with the Orchestra of St John on Saturday 5th May at 7.30pm.
The concert is the second of a duo of performances, the first of which delighted a full house audience in St John’s church on Saturday 28th April. The audience was in raptures, calling Charlotte back to the stage for continued recognition in their never slowing applause. One member of the audience said “Remarkable! Charlotte’s playing is exquisite!”
For the ambitious second half the orchestra are joined by the Chorus of St John and member of Worcester Festival Choral Society, an 80 strong choir who perform during the final movement of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. The performance in Bromsgrove means the Orchestra of St John have now performed all 9 of Beethoven’s symphonies in St John’s church – a very special achievement for an amateur orchestra. The Cathedral concert will also celebrate th is achievement .
Renowned music critic Christopher Morley was in the audience for what he called an amazing evening. In his review he said “Bromsgrove’s Orchestra of St John is an ensemble which exudes pleasure in its companionable music-making. It also vaults with ambition, and this programme was its most demanding yet, calling upon two-and-a-half–hour’s worth of reserves of concentration and stamina… the music gripped with enthusiasm and commitment” (Christopher Morley, Birmingham Post)
Of the concerts Charlotte Moseley said “It was a truly wonderful experience to perform as soloist in one of my favourite pieces – Elgar’s Violin Concerto. I am really excited and feel very lucky that we will perform the concert again in Worcester Cathedral, a place which was so important to Elgar himself. I am certain it will be a magnificent concert and celebration of our achievements as an orchestra.”
